Summertime is movie time in my family. We love rewatching favorites, checking out new releases, discovering hidden gems, and enjoying forgotten classics throughout the season.
There’s just something about summer movie magic.
Like last summer’s Barbenheimer experience, summer blockbusters add hype to the season. Fun movie experiences can turn regular summer days into fond memories looked back on for years to come.
Double the Fun to Beat the Heat
With all the hot temps we’ve been experiencing this season, ducking in for a flick or two at an air-conditioned theater is one great way to tap into that exciting summer energy without melting in the brutal heat.
On one of those brutally hot and stormy days, the 4th of July to be exact, my family and I decided to spend the holiday chilling at the movies for a Barbenheimer-style double feature experience.
The films on our list? Inside Out 2 and A Quiet Place Day One. I haven’t landed on the double feature’s mashup name yet.

Our Cool Escape
Walking from the car to the theater, I already knew this was the way to spend the day.
Outside, it was hot, muggy, and surely crowded at our local fireworks spot — Washington, DC’s National Mall.
Inside the theater, the atmosphere was a completely different story. Cool air conditioning mixed with buttery popcorn scents greeted me as my family and I entered the theater lobby.
The perfect escape from the summer heat.
Middle-row seats, popcorn refills, our Inside Out and A Quiet Place double feature, and Nicole Kidman’s iconic movie monologue — what better way to spend the fourth of July?

Summer Movie Magic Ideas to Make Memories
Inside Out 2 and A Quiet Place Day One were a surprisingly well-paired and thoughtful combination.
We laughed at the psychological children’s film. We cried at the heartfelt alien invasion flick. Later over pizza, we analyzed both movies’ deeper meanings.
